SCREECHING FELINES: BROKEN TOY [MP3, 4.41MB]
Lili LaPerm, Rex Rex's other half from the band, describes the birth of, and concept behind the new song "Broken Toy:"
"'Broken Toy' started off as a poem that a friend of mine had written years ago. We were looking through some of his old poems and this one stuck out as something that seemed interesting. It's a universal concept; that 'I'm not good enough for you' feeling. But presented through an interesting metaphor: the doll. Anyway, my friend recently went into the military and before he left, I thought it would be nice to take one of his old poems and put it to music... Kind of a going away present. When I finished the initial piano and vocals for it sent it to Rex to see what his thoughts were. Instantly he started talking about all the things he could hear in this, if it were beefed up quite a bit more... So... One thing led to another and within a week we had this full-on goth/rock sounding track. We haven't decided if it will appear on our next album or not, as it was just kind of a happy accident, but either way, it's a good track and I everyone involved really liked the way it turned out."
